There are 208 inmates imprisoned on charges of different sexual offenses. There are 148 other prisoners and 60 detained, according to the office. One of them is a female prisoner. According to Kamal Prasad Acharya, chief of the office, most of the inmates are above 40 years of age. The prison has the second largest number of inmates for drug-related offenses. He said that there were 140 prisoners on drug-related offenses.
The 10 women and 130 men who are jailed for drug related offenses are over 25 years old. Additionally, 81 men and 21 women are locked up in similar cases. According to the office, 69 inmates are
imprisoned for the illegal sale of rhino horn, 55 other inmates are charged with vehicle-related deaths, and 49 of them are charged with theft.
Criminals arrested for robbery, murder, human trafficking, kidnapping, some public crimes, arms smuggling, timber theft, suicide incitement, fraud,, cheating, polygamy, military law, property laundering, and arson are also in the prison.
According to Acharya, they also have two dependent minors in prison. Inmates from three districts including Chitwan are in this prison, he informed Prisoners from Makwanpur and Nawalpur districts are often sent to Chitwan’s jail due to health facilities, he further added.
As there is no prison office in Nawalpur, the number of inmates has increased here.
There are more inmates in this prison than its holding capacity. There are 690 inmates in the 255-capacity male prison and 51 in the female prison which has a capacity of 25 inmates.
