Nawalparasi District Court has sentenced a defendant to 18 years in prison for raping a girl. According to the district court, Prakash Poudel, a resident of Bardaghat Municipality-12 was sentenced.
Defendant Poudel was accused of raping a 10-year-old girl on 1 December, 2020. A session of District Court Judge Ashok Kumar Basnet found Poudel guilty on the basis of necessary evidence and sentenced him to 18 years imprisonment today, Information Officer Prem Prasad Poudel said.
It is mentioned in the verdict that the defendant Poudel forced the girl to go to a relative's house with her parents to buy new clothes in the evening while she was playing. The accused Poudel was arrested immediately after the villagers informed the police.
The court has also ordered to provide Rs 100,000 as compensation to the victim. According to Srestedar Poudel, the court has ordered to pay compensation to the victim from the Relief Fund established under the Crime Victims Protection Act, 2018/19 as the defendant Poudel's financial condition is weak and he cannot afford to pay compensation.
