Melamchi authorities appeal for financial help

Over 500m families displaced in Melamchi Municipality

The floods due to the heavy rainfall along with the advent of the monsoon have caused vast damage and destruction in Melamchi, Helambu and adjoining regions. To overcome this catastrophe and provide necessary relief to those who have been affected the local level authorities have sought help from people. 

In Melamchi Municipality alone, more than 500 families have been displaced. Issuing a statement today, the municipality office has sought financial help to rescue and provide relief to those families who have been affected. The municipality has also sought financial help to rehabilitate families who have been displaced and to reconstruct physical infrastructure that has been damaged by the floods. 

The municipality office has informed that the Melamchi River is still eroding land in the area and physical assets worth billions have been completely damaged. It said that Melmchi City Park and Melamchi Bus Park along with other physical infrastructure have been completely damaged.

The local authorities have said it is their responsibility at the moment to rescue people and to provide relief to them and to also rehabilitate them. However, since this is going to involve a huge financial cost the authorities have appealed to people across the country and various organisations for their contribution.


The municipality office has also mentioned that those willing can make financial contributions in the municipality’s bank account that has been opened in the local branch of Nepal Bank. The account number where people can make deposits is 161800107050209000001. The local authorities have said that the financial contributions will be utilised in a transparent manner and the amount that has been contributed and the expenses will be made public.
