People from the Myagdi district living and working abroad have collected and remitted more than Rs 26 million to their home district in Nepal for social work. The Myagdi Overseas Nepalis Association (MONA), an organisation of the people from Myagdi district who are living and working abroad sent that amount in the last two years' period.

This information was shared in the Fourth General Convention of MONA which started in Beni, the headquarters of Myagdi district, on Tuesday.

MONA president Om Narayan Jugjali said that more than Rs 26 million assistance, including cash and kind, has entered the district through MONA from 2019 to date.

"The people from the district who are in 28 countries around the world have contributed the monetary assistance for the reconstruction of the houses for the landslide affected families and for buying health supplies to respond to COVID-19 in the district," he said. Jugjali also said that MONA has rescued the people from Myagdi who are facing problems in foreign lands as well as set up an emergency fund.

MONA had collected Rs 20 million and sent the amount for the reconstruction of 40 houses destroyed by landslides in 2020. Fourteen houses were rebuilt in Dhaulagiri, 10 in Malika, and four houses each in Annapurna, Mangala, and Raghuganga rural municipalities and Beni municipality. These houses with three rooms, a toilet, and a drinking water facility were handed over to the flood and landslide affected people last July.
