The 72nd National Democracy Day is being celebrated today by organizing various programs across the country. A special program is being organized in Tundikhel today on this occasion. It is said that special personalities will be present in the program. This day has been commemorated on the 18th of February, 1951 as the establishment of democracy in Nepal has been declared after the end of the 104-year-old Rana rule.

On this occasion, since 1952, it has become a tradition for the main ceremony committee to organize a special ceremony at the Sainik Manch (Army's stage). Other organizations have also organized various programs on the occasion of the day.

The government has called for a special three-day celebration on February 18, 19 and 20. Light festival will also be celebrated in the evening for three days. Various programs are being organized by commemorating the Democracy Day as the foundation of change in 1990, 2007 and 2009. The constitution was promulgated by the Constituent Assembly after 70 years on the basis of Democracy Day.
