Nepal records yet another highest daily cases, deaths on Wednesday

8,605 new cases take nationwide tally to 359,610; 58 deaths reported

Nepal's Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) Wednesday reported 8,605 new cases of coronavirus infection, the highest daily record. With this, the COVID count has reached 359,610. Additionally, 54 persons have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 in the antigen test.

Likewise, the Health Ministry also recorded 58 deaths from COVID-19, the highest daily record till now. Prior to this, the highest daily cases and deaths were reported on Tuesday.

The nationwide death toll from COVID-19 has reached 3,475 with the report of 58 more deaths from the contagion in the past 24 hours. Presently, there are 66,352 active cases in Nepal.

The three districts of Kathmandu valley have recorded 3,825 cases — 2,849 in Kathmandu, 518 in Lalitpur and 458 in Bhaktapur in the past 24 hours.

As many as 1,993 patients of COVID-19 have recovered in the past 24 hours. As of Wednesday, at least 289,783 people have recovered from the viral disease, the data released by the MoHP showed. At present, the recovery rate stands at 80.6 per cent.

Earlier, the MoHP on Tuesday had reported 7,587 cases of coronavirus infection that had taken the nationwide tally to 351,005.

As of Wednesday, a total of 2,558,051 persons have undergone the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test. Presently, there are 66,352 persons staying in isolation while 381 others have been placed in quarantine in the country.

More than 154.41 million people have been reported to be infected by the novel coronavirus worldwide while at least 3,367,914 people have died from COVID-19, following an outbreak that started in Wuhan, China, in early December, a Reuters tally showed as of 3:10 pm, on Wednesday, May 5, 2021.

The World Health Organisation referred to it as a pandemic on March 11, 2020.
