Nepal reports 238 new COVID cases, 2 deaths on Monday

Nationwide COVID tally hits 822,830; death toll reaches 11,543

The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) Monday confirmed the detection of 238 new cases of coronavirus infection. With this, the COVID count has reached 822,830. Additionally, 27 persons have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 in the antigen test.

Likewise, the MoHP has recorded two deaths from COVID-19 in the past 24 hours. The ministry on May 19 recorded 246 deaths, the highest daily number. As of Monday, the nationwide death toll from COVID-19 has reached 11,543. Presently, there are 6,386 active cases in Nepal.

Meanwhile, the three districts of Kathmandu valley have recorded 112 cases in the past 24 hours. Kathmandu logged 79 cases, Lalitpur logged 23 cases and Bhaktapur logged 10 cases, as per the data released by the MoHP.

As many as 357 patients of COVID-19 have recovered in the past 24 hours. As of Monday, a total of 804,901people have recovered from the viral disease, the data released by the MoHP showed. Presently, the recovery rate stands at 97.8 per cent while the fatality rate is 1.4 per cent.

Earlier, the MoHP Sunday had reported 200cases of coronavirus infection that had taken the nationwide tally to 822,592.

As of Monday, a total of 4,669,794 people have undergone the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test. Presently, there are 6,386 people staying in isolation while 98 others have been placed in quarantine in the country.

Meanwhile, 3,437,036 people have been administered the first dose of Covishield vaccines and 2,082,780 have been vaccinated with the booster dose. Likewise, 6,940,787 people have been vaccinated with the first dose of the Vero Cell vaccine while 5,069,914 others have received the second dose as of December 6, 2021, the Ministry's data showed. Likewise, a total of 53,836 persons — 5,969 in Province 1; 6,871 in Province 2; 26,416 in Bagmati Province; 3,391 in Gandaki Province; 5,300 in Lumbini Province, 2,187 in Karnali Province, and 3,702 in Sudurpaschim Province — have been vaccinated with Pfizer vaccines. Meanwhile, 1,573,091 citizens have been inoculated with Janssen and Janssen vaccines across the country.

More than 265.28 million people have been reported to be infected by the novel coronavirus worldwide while at least 5,550,000  people have died from COVID-19, following an outbreak that started in Wuhan, China, in 2019-December, COVID-19 Global tracker data shown by Reuters. It has been reported that COVID-19 infections are still rising in 58 countries where The United States is the new hotspot of COVID-19 facing a daily surge of rapid infections.

Meanwhile, the Omicron variant of coronavirus has been found in Nepal too. The Ministry of Health and Population held a press conference here today in the presence of Health Minister Birodh Khatiwada.
