For the first time in Nepal, college level teaching of mountaineering is being done at master level. This is how mountaineering is being taught at the Nepal Mountain Academy. At Nepal Mountain Academy In the 8th semester of the Bachelor of Mountaineering Studies (BMS), they are going to climb the mountain for a study including 7000 meters of mountaineering. Students are climbing Himalung Mountain at an altitude of 7126 meters. Students of 1st Batch (8th semester) of Bachelor of Mountaineering Studies have obtained climbing permission from the Government of Nepal. Fifteen students will participate in the Himalayan climb.
Of that team IFMGA Mountain Guide Gelje Sherpa and Academic Supervisor Dr. Behrouz Moghaddasi (Iran) also included.
This will be the first university-level study to reach the world's highest altitude after study research, including climbing. Which will prove to be a cornerstone in Nepal's mountain tourism.
This time, three different teams have got permission to climb Himlung Mountain. There are a total of 28 men and 3 women in the team.
The academy was established in 2002 under the Ministry of Tourism, Government of Nepal. The subjects taught in this academy are under the management faculty of Tribhuvan University. Earlier, the students of this academy had successfully climbed Merapeak Mountain. A team of 18 people, including 12 students of the academy, had successfully climbed the 'Mera Peak' mountain in Solukhumbu.
At present, mountaineering is being taught up to master level in Nepal. Currently, students of the second batch of master level are studying. Similarly, the fifth batch has come at the bachelor level. Similarly, Mountaineering is also being taught in various colleges at Ten plus Two level. In addition, the subject is being taught in some schools, said Lhakpafuti Sherpa, the outgoing president of the academy. For such work, the academy has been assisting in curriculum development and giving orientation to the teachers concerned.
Necessary preparations are being made to turn this academy, which currently teaches postgraduate subjects, into a university in the future. With the world's highest peak, Mount Everest, as well as eight mountains higher than 8,000 meters, it is agreed that this academy could become a hub for any person or organization in the world interested in mountaineering and mountain research in the future.
