The main opposition Nepali Congress on Friday submitted a letter regarding its refusal of the ordinances tabled in the National Assembly meeting by the government. The letter was submitted to the Federal Parliament Secretariat.

The ordinances refused by the NC include the constitutional council (function, duties, rights and procedure) (first amendment), the one relating to oath taking, Nepal citizenship (first amendment), social security (first amendment), economic, appropriation and railway, the one on Investigation of Disappeared Persons, Truth and Reconciliation Commission (third amendment) and Nepal Police and Provincial Police (operation, supervision and coordination) (first amendment).

The government had tabled various 16 ordinances in the first meeting of the NA’s eighth session that started from Thursday.

The party has refused the ordinances, reasoning that they were tabled against the spirit of the constitution, the principle of separations of power and parliamentary norms and values and they are irrelevant and have been brought bypassing the parliament.

The information letter relating to the refusal of the ordinances has been submitted by NC lawmakers Radhe Shyam Adhikari, Anita Devkota, Prakash Pantha and Khimlal Devkota.
