Chances of there being changes in the Council of Ministers are highly likely. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, who has been handling an additional seven ministries, today said that there will be changes in the Cabinet.
On May 20, the Supreme Court had issued a verdict stating that the appointment of the seven ministers in Oli’s Cabinet was unconstitutional due to which they had been relieved of their positions.
A single bench of Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JB Rana had mentioned that as per Article 78 of the Constitution of Nepal a person who is not a member of the federal parliament can be appointed as minister only once for a maximum period of six months while issuing the interim order.
As a result, then Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa along with Minister of Industry, Commerce and Supplies Lekhraj Bhatta; Minister of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Top Bahadur Rayamajhi; Minister of Urban Development Prabhu Sah; Minister of Water Supply Mani Chandra Thapa; Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Security Gaurishankar Chaudhari; and Minister of Youth and Sports Dawa Lama Tamang had lost their positions.
Meanwhile, PM Oli said today that besides filling the seven vacant posts there will be changes in other ministries too. He mentioned that if other parties too want to join the government then there will be changes to the Council of Ministers but it will not be more than 25 ministers.
