At least five police personnel including the Police Inspector and two locals were injured in a clash in Chitwan district today. Police were compelled to use force to round up a murder suspect after locals took a stand against the arrest being made.

According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Om Adhikari, police personnel had to fire blank shots and use tear gas shells to bring the situation under control after locals pelted the former with stones resisting the arrest of a person accused of killing another one last night. One of the injured includes Inspector Roshan Khadka.

Dasharath Malla (50) allegedly murdered Kanchha Lama (59) of Rapti Municipality-9 in the district, on Friday night. According to Chitwan District Police Office, Malla struck Lama with an iron bar while the latter was walking down the road, at around 10:00 pm yesterday. Lama is said to have succumbed to injuries.

SP Adhikari said that Malla murdered Lama to take vengeance on him as the duo were said to have earned enmity towards each other.

Investigation into murder case is underway while Malla has been taken into police custody, police informed.
