The government has started discussions with the concerned authorities on whether to hold the upcoming local elections in one phase or more. The Election Commission has proposed a local-level election on 7 May 2022.
Home Minister Bal Krishna Khan on Monday discussed with the concerned officials about the pre-election security situation at the local level and the security arrangements required for the election. Home Ministry spokesperson Pradip Kumar Koirala said that he has taken information about the assessment, availability, and management of resources for the election.
Minister for Federal Affairs and General Administration Rajendra Shrestha, Home Secretary Teknarayan Pandey, Defense Secretary Vegendra Raj Sharma Poudel, Finance Secretary Madhu Marasini, Federal Affairs and General Administration Secretary Suresh Adhikari, and Foreign Secretary Bharat Sharma Poudyal expressed their views on local level elections.
Similarly, Rathi Bal Krishna Karki of Nepal Army, Shailendra Khanal, Inspector General of Armed Police, Ganesh Prasad Adhikari, Chief of National Investigation Department, Sahakul Bahadur Thapa, Additional Inspector General of Nepal Police, Mukunda Prasad Niraula, Chief of Home Security and Coordination Division and Dr. Bhishma Kumar Bhusal and others were also present.
Spokesperson Koirala clarified that the security arrangements for the upcoming National Assembly elections and the assessment, availability and management of the resources required for the security of the upcoming local elections were discussed.
