President Bidya Devi Bhandari wished happiness, peace, and prosperity to all Nepalis living abroad and at home on the occasion of Sita Jayanti.
Sita Jayanti, also the day Sita came into being, is observed on the ninth day of the waxing moon in the month of Baisakh according to the lunar calendar. The day is celebrated by worshipping Sita in all Ram and Sita temples around the country, especially Janakpur, center of the Mithila kingdom. People sign hymns in the glory of Sita.
Sita, who is also known as Janaki, Baidehi, and Janakanandini among others, is believed to possess incredible strength and knowledge. She was married off to Lord Ram, who is believed to be the 10th incarnation of Lord Vishnu in Hindu Mythology.
President Bhandari, in her message, stated that it was a matter of pride for Nepal and Nepalis that Sita, an epitome of an ideal woman, was from Nepal.
Bhandari expressed her wish that this day inspires us to end all gender, social and cultural prejudices, and disparity and encourages us to build a progressive, civilized and well-cultured society.
Sita is believed to originate in the farmland when Mithila's King Janak performed yagya ritually and plowed the land in Treta Yug as per Valmiki Ramayana.
