An impeachment motion against Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Jabra has been tabled in the House of Representatives.

In today's meeting, MP Dev Prasad Gurung presented the proposal in accordance with Article 101 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal and Rule 161 of the Rules of the House of Representatives, 2075 BS.

MPs Gurung, Pushpa Bhusal (Gautam) and Jeevan Ram Shrestha were the proponents and 95 members were the proponents. MP Gurung had argued that an impeachment had to be filed against the Chief Justice for not acting responsibly and failing to provide effective service to the people.

He further added that the impeachment motion had to be filed against Chief Justice Jabra for failing to perform his duties in accordance with the post, for failing to perform his duties, for abusing his position by acting contrary to the Justice Administration Act, and for abusing his powers.

An agenda has been set for the parliamentarians to have an opinion on the proposal in the next meeting of the House of Representatives.

The House of Representatives has formed an impeachment recommendation committee to investigate the impeachment motion. The committee has four members from CPN (UML), two each from Nepali Congress and Maoists, one each from Janata Samajwadi Party and Loktantrik Samajwadi Party. The committee will examine the person who has registered the impeachment motion to see if there is any basis or reason for submitting the motion.
