The Eighth Budget Assembly of Province 1 started on Monday.

In Monday’s meeting, Economic Affairs and Planning Minister Tanka Angbuhang Limbu tabled an Ordinance on Fiscal Procedures Act, 2074 (Second Amendment).

At the beginning of the session, Speaker Pradip Kumar Bhandari read out a letter sent by Province Chief Somnath Adhikari ‘Pyasi’ regarding the call for the Eighth Budget Assembly.

Speaking at the meeting, Chief Minister of Province 1 and CPN (UML) parliamentary party leader Sherdhan Rai said that the Province Government was serious to safeguard the people’s lives from the second wave of COVID-19.

Saying that the pandemic has had a serious impact on the socio-economic life of the province, Rai stressed the need for establishing a new foundation based on the lessons learnt from the past.

Rai said that the Province Government was not willing to escape the House and added that the pre-budget discussions could be held in a good manner in a short period of time.

On the occasion, he briefed the House about the vaccination drive and management of health care services in the province while claiming that there was no misappropriation in the inoculation drive.

Likewise, Nepali Congress parliamentary party leader Rajiv Koirala questioned the budget allocated for the projects mentioned in the red book and argued that the government has carried out the financial crime in the province.

Similarly, CPN (Maoist Centre) parliamentary party leader Indra Bahadur Angboo took exception to the poor discussions on budget’s principle and priorities.

The next meeting of the House shall start at 12:30 noon on June 8.
