A schoolgirl, who had gone missing while returning home from school, was found dead near her home at Kabhre of Halesi Tuwachung Municipality-7 in Khotang district on Monday morning.
Ranjita Dahal, 17, had gone out of contact since Sunday afternoon while returning home from her school, Mahendrodaya Secondary School.
Dahal, a tenth grader, had gone to her school on Sunday for the preparation of sports that her school was going to conduct from January 17. However, the sports tournament at the school is postponed after the dead body of Dahal was found in a suspicious state.
After completing the preparations, she left for home at around 3:30 pm on Sunday.
She was found dead just 200 meters away from her home.
Locals have recovered a piece of the shawl on her neck and also on a branch of a tree, ward chairman Kamal Giri said.
Giri said that the death is suspicious adding that a fair probe is required.
Likewise, the District Police Office, Khotang, said that investigations into the case are initiated and preparations are ongoing to take the dead body to the District Hospital at Diktel for the postmortem.
