Two major political parties filed candidacy for the post of Speaker of the House of Representatives on Wednesday.
Devraj Ghimire of CPN UML is the candidate on behalf of the ruling alliance while Ishwori Devi Neupane is from the opposition Nepali Congress.
Ghimire reached the office of the election officer at the parliament secretariat building, New Baneshwor, at 1:00 pm, and Neupane at 4:00 pm to file their nominations. The Speaker’s election is being held on Thursday at 11:00 am.
Following the registration, Speaker’s candidate from the ruling alliance, Ghimire said, “If elected, I will systematically run the parliament meeting by taking into account the past lesson and consultation and consensus with political parties.”
He further asserted that he would be elected the Speaker and would not let any stone unturned to make the parliament effective. Ghimire said he would deliver his responsibility by rising above party interest.
Similarly, another candidate of the Nepali Congress, Neupane also expressed confidence that she would be elected the Speaker. “I’ll neutrally deliver my task while ensuring justice to lawmakers and parliament.”
