Taskforce formed to rescue, evacuate Nepalis from Afghanistan

Nepalis in Afghanistan or their family members in Nepal requested to contact DoCS for rescue, evacuation

An inter-ministerial meeting held in coordination with the chief secretary of the government has formed a taskforce to learn about the current development of Afghanistan, the condition of Nepalis staying there in foreign employment, and to proceed with their rescue operation.

The task force comprises the members including the heads of Central Asia, West Asia and Africa divisions of the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security, Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Ministry of Health and Population, Nepal Police, COVID-19 Crisis Management Centre, and first-class gazetted secretaries and joint secretaries at the Department of Consular Services (DoCS).

Likewise, an online registration portal has been set up on the website of the (DoCS) at https://nepalconsular.gov.np/ to collect the details of Nepali nationals in Afghanistan for rescue purposes.

The concerned person or the family members are requested to register the details including their name in the portal immediately.

The Nepali migrant workers in Afghanistan or their family members in Nepal can contact the mobile numbers including Viber and WhatsApp facility + 977-9749326458 (DoCS) and + 977-9749326459 (MoFA) to inform the condition and for the rescue operation.

Meanwhile, the Government of Nepal has formally entered into correspondence with the United Nations, the UK, Canada, Germany, the European Union, Japan and the offices of the United Nations to immediately rescue and repatriate Nepalis working in diplomatic missions and international organisations in Kabul, the capital city of Afghanistan.

A Travel Advisory has been issued by the Nepali Mission in New Delhi on the latest developments and current situation in Afghanistan.

Likewise, the manpower companies involved in sending Nepalis to Afghanistan in foreign employment have been urged to provide the MoFA with the details and information data necessary for their rescue.

Earlier, the International Relations Committee under the House of Representatives has instructed the government to resort to all diplomatic means for the immediate evacuation of all Nepalis in Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, the first Czech evacuation flight has taken off from Kabul’s international airport and landed in Prague.

A total of 46 people including Czech nationals, the Afghan staffers at the Czech embassy and Afghan interpreters who helped the Czech armed forces during NATO missions together with their families were aboard Monday’s flight.
