Three held with red panda skin, bear biles in Nepalgunj

Police arrested three persons with a red panda skin and four bear biles from Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City-1in Banke district on Saturday evening.

The arrested have been identified as Bhakta Bahadur Pun (41) of Ghorahi Sub-Metropolitan City-4 in Dang; Rabin Budha (29) of Shantinagar Rural Municipality-1 in Dang; and Keshav Pun (41) of Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan-1.

They were allegedly smuggling and dealing with the body parts of protected wildlife from Rapti Guest House in Pushpalal Chowk. Acting on a tip-off, joint security personnel deployed from Dang-based Lumbini Provincial Investigation Office and Banke-based District Police Office nabbed them while raiding the guest house. They had been hiding the skin and biles in a bag.

They have been tried under National Parks and Wildlife Conservation Act (2029) and further investigation into the case is being carried out, informed the police.
