What went wrong in Gorkha Bridge?

Nepal is a country where many people still use suspension cable to cross the river. Lack of bridges in many places has deprived children from going to school or take health benefits. In such a country, the news of bridge being constructed in a site where there is not even a trace of road is irony. It is proof of utter corruption and highhandedness of people in power.

Gorkha district of Nepal witnessed the irony. Former provincial Member of Parliament and Minister Mr. Ram Sharan Basnet constructed the motor bridge in Gorkha over the Daraundi River. Even the locals are against it as there is no road connectivity to the bridge.

Over 50 million rupees of cost in making bridge is becoming the mockery of our so-called leaders’ bare developmental plans. It is purely a misuse of budget. Even an ordinary person can sense the hint of corruption in it. According to locals, the bridge was constructed without discussing the matter with any stakeholders. Interestingly, there is a suspension bridge nearby the motor able bridge.

Development activities must run. It is the normal phenomenon for the democratic progressive nation. However, people’s representatives and politician must recognize and understand the priorities of people.
