The Khanal-Nepal faction of CPN-UML led by Jhalanath Khanal and Madhav Kumar Nepal has held a central committee meeting in Kathmandu today.

It has been learnt that a total of 45 members participated in the meeting held at Megha Party Palace in Kalanki at 12:00 pm.

The meeting of the faction was held on the day following the four of the leaders' response made to the clarification sought by the party. Four CPN-UML leaders including Madhav Kumar Nepal, Bhim Bahadur Rawal, Surendra Pandey and Ghanashyam Bhusal responded to the clarification on Thursday.

The party's central committee meeting held by the Oli-led faction on March 20 had sought clarification from the four leaders accusing them of working against the party. The letter seeking their clarification was sent to them by party general secretary Ishwar Pokharel on March 21, with a week's deadline.

Meanwhile, it has been learnt that those participating in the meeting were divided as some opined that they should take part in the meeting called by the party chair and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli at his official residence in Baluwatar while others expressed their views that they should boycott the programmes organised by the Oli-led faction.

It may be noted that following the reinstatement of the CPN-UML and CPN Maoist Centre by the Supreme Court, leader Nepal has been running parallel activities, in protest against the decision of the party chair to make appointments unilaterally.
