Maoist convention: Voter roll published

The Election Commission has made public the voters' list for the election of the new leadership of the CPN (Maoist Center). According to the head of the commission Bishnu Pukar Shrestha, the list of 1,742 voters has been made public. The list includes the organizing committee, various departments, senior communist forum, advisory committee and nominated representatives who have participated in the party unity process.

The commission has stated that the voter list has been published on behalf of the commission for the selection of new leadership. Only today, the Maoist constitution was passed by consensus. As per the passed legislation, a 299-member central committee including 15 office bearers is being selected. The legislation was passed after standing committee member Dev Prasad Gurung answered the questions raised regarding the legislation. As per the constitution, the leadership will be selected on the basis of open 50 percent and 50 percent proportional system. Similarly, the Central Committee has made arrangements to nominate 15 percent.

A cluster of Dalit, Muslim, Tharu, Madhesi, Adivasi, Janajati, Khas Arya, people with disabilities, backward areas, women and youth has been decided in 50 percent proportional. In the Central Committee, 35 percent women and 20 percent youth under 40 years of age will be represented in all the clusters and open. The Maoists have stated that they are preparing to select the leadership by consensus. A meeting of the standing committee was held at Kamaladi today to discuss issues including selection of new leadership.
