There seems to be no end to the dispute between Mahanta Thakur and Upendra Yadav, Chairpersons of the Janata Samajbadi Party-Nepal (JSP). After Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli dissolved the House of Representatives and sought to form a new government Thakur had stood in favour of Oli but Yadav was in favour of supporting the opposition parties led by Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba.
In fact, the Yadav faction had even initiated disciplinary action against the lawmakers of Thakur faction for supporting PM Oli. Even Thakur had taken disciplinary action against Yadav. However, the Election Commission, on Sunday, had stated that the action taken by the two factions of JSP against each other was unlawful.
Meanwhile, after realising that he does not have the required numbers to effect a split in the party, Thakur has resorted to other means. He has unilaterally added more members who are close to him to the party’s Working Committee. As the Yadav faction has a majority in the 51-member Working committee Thakur has unilaterally added 16 more members to the committee.
