The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has stated that the school cannot be operated at the time due to havoc caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Stating the risk remains even though the corona rate is lower than before, the KMC said the school will not able to operate immediately and teaching will be done via alternative means for a while.

The cabinet meeting held on November 5 has already given the responsibility of operation by making some working procedures to the concerned local level. According to Nama Raj Dhakal, chief administrative officer of KMC, none of the single school has so far sought permission to run the school.

"Grade 12 examination is being conducted now. Even after the exam, the valley's municipal form will take a further decision in this regard," said Dhakal.

The school across the nation has closed since the COVID-19 pandemic hit the country in last April. Although some schools are reopening outside the Kathmandu valley, some of the high-risk areas are yet to operate.

A meeting of the Kathmandu Valley Municipal Forum held a few days ago also stated that the school could not be opened in the current situation. According to KMC, the framework will be prepared and operated on the advice of health experts after the infection in the Kathmandu Valley is gradually plumped.

Currently, 42,000 students are studying in 91 community schools and 2, 20,000 students in 541 institutional schools in KMC.
