Gaurika Singh, the 4 gold medalist of South Asian Games (SAG), improved her old time in the 20th edition of the World Aquatic Championship 2023 in Fukuoka, Japan and managed to set a national record with a new time.
Gaurika set a new national record of 31.44 seconds in the 50m backstroke, which was completed on Wednesday, bettering the time of 31.87 seconds set at the 12th SAG Games held in Gohati in 2016.
Earlier, Gaurika had also set a new record in the 100m backstroke in this championship.
Alexander Shah also improved his time and set a new record in the men's 100m freestyle of the championship, which is also a qualifying event for the Olympics. Alex set a new record with a time of 52.94, slightly improving on his old time of 52.96 seconds. Alex clocked a record time of 52.96 seconds at the recently concluded 11th NSA Cup Championship.
In the competition concluded on Tuesday, Duwana Lama improved her personal time in 200m freestyle and completed the distance in 2 minutes 12.46 seconds. Previously, Duwan's personal time was 2 minutes 15.01. Gaurika's time in this category is 2 minutes 11.94 seconds.
Now Nepalese players have two games left. Duwana Lama will compete in the 100m freestyle on Thursday and Alex will compete in the 50m freestyle on Friday.
