For the first time, Tenzing Norgay Sherpa Open Climbing Competition (Top Rope Edition) has been concluded in Kathmandu. Sajan lama became the first in the men's side and Srijana Tamang became the first in the women's side. Open climbing competition (top rope edition) was held separately between men and women at Krimpanji Adventure Hub in Bauddha. 38 men and 20 women participated in the competition.
Likewise, Dipan Gurung and Bijay Sunar have won the second and third place for men and Prena Rai and Yangla Bhote have won the second and third place for women. The program was inaugurated by Sonam Gelzen Sherpa, a member of the National Assembly, and Kancha Sherpa, a member of the 1953 Everest climbing team. Besides, the first, second, and third place winners were given cash prizes and hanging batches by the member secretary of the National Sports Council, Tankalal Ghising.
Also, the winner will get to stay at Annapurnaview Hotel Sarangkot for one night. Pasang Nima Sherpa, president of the US Nepal Climbers Association, said that the US Nepal Climbers Association and the Nepal National Mountain Guide Association jointly organized the event to promote the sport of climbing.
Tshiring Zangbu Sherpa, coordinator of the program and general secretary of the Nepal National Mountain Guide Association, said that the program is not only a competition but also a celebration of climbing culture.
Serap Zangbu Sherpa, past founder and president of the US Nepal Climbers Association, said that this competition will further encourage those who are interested in climbing. He said that since that organization has been organizing the Top Rope Edition in America as well, this time they have organized the competition in Nepal together with the Nepal National Mountain Guide Association.
Lakpa Nuru Sherpa, treasurer of the US Nepal Climbers Association, said that we have organized the event to promote the sport of climbing.
