On Thursday, a crowd of people carrying heavy loads of old clothes was seen at Kharekhola of Bagarphant in Beni Municipality-2 of Myagdi from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. When the three dhunias (people who make quilts, mattress, pillows) came to Bagarphant by pushing old clothes on a tractor and connecting the cotton extracting equipment, a crowd of people making quilts and mattresses was seen.
A team of Badri Ram Mandal, Shyam Sohni and Nikesh Gupta from Rautahat took out the cotton by peeling the cloth till evening and made 45 new circus mattress of different people from the same cotton. Badri Ram, a leader of Dhuniya, said that the group earned Rs. 63,000 from a single toll on the same day. According to him, even if he earns Rs. 63,000, he will save a lot.
Devi Thapa, a local, said that the residents of the area have been forced to search for dhuniya from outside to make circus and dusna.
With the help of the equipment, the Dhunias have reached the villages of Myagdi and are making good income by making mattress, quilts and pillows from old clothes. Badri Ram said that they have been making circuses and mattress in different villages of Malika and Mangala villages including Beni municipality of Myagdi for a year now. Badri Ram and his friends are earning a lucrative income by washing old clothes, making cotton, making mattress, quilts and pillows. After they go to the village, the crowd of people washing old clothes increases. Badri Ram said that everyone is earning Rs. 4,000 to Rs. 5,000 daily from this work.
He said that he has been working with this device for thirteen years and is earning good income from it. Badri Ram said that the locals used to express their happiness after the old clothes were put to good use. He said that the price of cotton is Rs. 50 per kg for sewing old cloth and Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 1800
