Metropolitan Crime Division (MCD) has arrested four people on charge of selling counterfeit Red Bull from different areas in Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC).
Two of those arrested have been identified as Rabin Raj Shrestha (44), of Babarmahal in KMC; Dhan Bahadur Shrestha (31) of Champadevi Rural Municipality-2 in Okhaldhungha. Rabindra is the owner of the Pranab Store in New Road while Dhan Bahadur is the owner of Shaktimata Store in Kapan.
The other two accused of selling the counterfeit Red Bull have been identified as Raju Poudel (36) of Kohalpur Municipality-9 in Banke and Birendra Chaudhary (36) of Haripur Municipality-1 in Sarlahi.
Kathmandu's wholesale suppliers and marts were allegedly selling the counterfeit Red Bull imported from abroad against the law pursuant to Chapter 4(D) of Information 1 of Gazette Part 5 published on June 17, 2019.
Based on the information that they were allegedly selling and distributing those counterfeit products, MCD nabbed them from different places of Kathmandu on Tuesday.
MCD seized almost 202 cartons with 4,848 units of Red Bull from their possession. Of them, 118 cartons were seized from Rabinraj and Dhan Bahadur's stores. MCD also recovered 84 cartons from a vehicle with registration number BA 21 CHA 125 from Nayabasti in Gothatar while they were distributing it to the stores.
The four arrested and seized Red Bull drinks will be handed over to Customs Office, informed MCD.
