Public transportation that had been halted since the start of the prohibitory order that had been imposed to control the second wave of the coronavirus will be allowed to resume operations in Kathmandu valley.

A meeting of the chief district officers of Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur that was held today has decided to allow the operation of public vehicles from Tuesday (June 29). However, only buses with capacity of more than 25 seats will be permitted to start providing services.

Chief District Officer of Lalitpur, Dhundi Prasad Niraula, informed that public vehicles will be allowed to operate on odd-even vehicle registration number basis. He also informed that the prohibitory order has been extended by one more week in Kathmandu valley.

CDO Niraula had informed on Sunday that there were plans to further extend the prohibitory order as a precaution because of the detection of the more infectious Delta Plus variant of the coronavirus. Moreover, he had added that COVID-19 infections had not subsided as expected.

The prohibitory order this time will be further relaxed. The District Administration Offices of all three districts within the valley will soon issue a notice on the modality of the prohibitory order.

The prohibitory order in Kathmandu valley has been imposed since April 29. The current order was to end at midnight today.
