Fashion styling is simply a visual art that revolves around creating of visual image through styling different outfits, color combination, and designs, creating silhouette with complimentary accessories, footwear, makeup, hairstyles and other necessary prop elements.
The main role as a Fashion stylist is to study & understand the body type/complexion and create the aesthetically pleasing & unique look.
As a fashion stylist I, having worked with different renowned models, actors and Miss Nepals, have faced some challenge but it is still a fun job.
To style someone, I start with studying their body type, skin complexion and try my best to enhance them gracefully. It all starts with the development of the mood board, story board and color palette. After preparing them, outfits, foot wears and accessories complimenting the look (also includes the props) are outsourced from different fashion brands and stores in a collaborative manner.
During the shoot as well, we, stylists, need to co-operate with the makeup artists, hairstylists, photographers and all the staffs who are working in that project. Communication plays a vital role here. Once the shoot is completed, I make sure to return their products after necessary dry cleaning and maintenance as it's my responsibility as a fashion stylist.
Talking about the Fashion styling scene in Nepal, it's still in its rowing phase. Nepalese are becoming more aware about the dynamic fashion trends through different social media platforms.
Even celebrities, actors & influencers have started to experiment with their fashion choices and are leveling up their fashion games with the help of their personal fashion stylists. Similarly, stylists are also getting opportunities to work with different magazines, ad commercials, movies and music Videos. Likewise, Popular Fashion brands have also started hiring their stylists for their photo-shoot and stuffs.
While we talk about the duties and responsibilities of a stylist, they have their own challenges to face. Most of the stylists are barely paid or are underpaid for their job. Fashion stylists and their duties are taken lightly by the clients and other members during the projects of which they are part of. Plus, People still misunderstand don't know the differences between a designer and a stylist. However, Nepali Fashion industry is growing rapidly which is a great sign for emerging stylists including myself.
