Places to visit when at Rupandehi district

Rupandehi district, located in Lumbini Province, is one of the seventy-seven districts of Nepal, covering an area of 1,360 km². The district headquarter is Bhairahawa.

 As per the national census 2011, the population of Rupandehi was 880,196.

Rupandehi named after Rupadevi, king Suddhodana’s queen, is known for its beauty that tells the story of great histories. Renovations are under way to build an international airport in Bhairahawa.

• Lumbini

Lumbini, the birthplace of Siddhartha Gautama, has become a place of pilgrimage for many devotees. It is one of the most important spiritual sites and attracts hundreds of Buddhist pilgrims from around the world every year.

It was successfully listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. Lumbini is known in the world because of Prince Siddhartha, who later became the Buddha. It is said that he took his first seven steps here.

Lumbini has some unbelievable architecture displayed in the 14 monasteries here built by different countries, and most of them are open for visitors.

Maya Devi temple is the main temple at Lumbini, standing close to a sacred pool and a sacred garden.

For the people looking for a peaceful place to feel rejuvenated, than Lumbini is the place to be.

• Devdaha

Devdaha is the ancient capital of Koliya Kingdom, located 7km east of Lumbini and Butwal.

It is identified as the maternal home of Queen Mayadevi, Prajapati Gautami and Princess Yasodhara. People believe that Prince Siddhartha had spent some years of his childhood with his step-mother Prajapati Gautami in Devdaha as well.

This place is a home for a historical tree known as "Pakari Brikshya" with a circumference of around 16-20 meters. Sarantari and Keuli are also some places one should to explore in Devdaha.

• SiddhaBaba Temple

Siddhababa temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. This is a pilgrimage site for Lord Shiva devotees and on Maha Shivaratri there are hundreds of people waiting to worship the god.

The temple, built on a rocky hill is located on the boundary between Palpa and Rupandehi. Two Siddha Baba Temples are located next to each other; one lies in Rupandehi, while the other lies in Palpa.

During the rainy season, you can see a beautiful waterfall falling down the mountain.

• Chappiya Fish Village Resort

Located in Siyari Municipality located around 12 kilometers west of Bhairahawa in Siyari Gaupalika, Chappiya Fish Village has gained a lot of popularity at the present.

 Visitors from all around the nation come to eat varieties of fish dishes and appetizing cuisines. Besides that, visitors fish themselves and also enjoy boating.

Rooms are also available where you can enjoy your stay with your friends or family and enjoy campfire. But reservations should be done before as they only offer few rooms.

• Ostrich Farm

Ostrich farm located at Gongoliya, Mudhari, Rupandehi covering 22 bighas land homes around 8,000 Ostriches since 2008. They also have another farm in Suryapur, Rupandehi covering 150 bighas land.

Furthermore, it has extended itself in Bijauri, Dang in a total area of 50 biggas. It is Asia's largest Ostrich farm in Asia.

For the entry, visitors can buy tickets from the ticket counter, 100 rs and 50 rs each for students with an identity card.

• Manimukunda Park (Fulbari)

Manimukunda Park is locally known as Fulbari used to be the garden of Manimukunda Sen in the old days.

The park has a small zoo occupied by wild animals like the Leopard, Deer, Blue Cow (nilgai) and Anaconda.

There is also a fun-size playground with slides and swings for the kids.

The park is known for its greenery and variety of beautiful flowers can also be found making one feel to the nature. One can also go for a picnic with their family and friends.

As the lockdown has lifted and the tourism sector is coming back to life in the nation, these are the some of the places you can visit while you are at Rupandehi.
