Nawalparasi, Nawalpur has not been able to maintain the amount of mustard production at the present. Although the mustard produced in the district was exported to various cities of the country including Kathmandu and Pokhara, the production of mustard has been declining in recent years.

According to the Agriculture Knowledge Centre, the mustard produced in the district has not been able to meet the demand. According to Barsha Neupane, an agronomist at the centre, the production of mustard in the district has been continuously declining in recent years. She adds that the district had produced 1,205 metric tons of mustard produced in the district last fiscal year cultivated in an area of about 1,120 hectares.

It is estimated that about 1,200 metric tons of mustard will be produced in the current fiscal year. According to Neupane, even if mustard is cultivated in an area of 1,180 hectares in Nawalpur this year, production is expected to decline.

"It is estimated that mustard will be produced at the rate of 1.05 metric tons per hectare this year," she said.

Mustard has been cultivated in Kawasoti, Madhyabindu, Gaindakot and other areas. Although the production of mustard was sufficient last year, it has been declining recently. The attraction towards mustard farming is declining as farmers have started earning substantial income from cash crops.
