A total of 434 people on high-risk journeys have been rescued from Nepalgunj. According to Keshav Koirala, coordinator of Maiti Nepal Nepalgunj, Maiti Nepal, an organization working against human trafficking, rescued them from the border crossing Jamuna in Nepalgunj in 2021.

According to him, Surkhet district has been at the highest risk lately. In one year, 432 people have been reunited with their families. They have been reunited with their families after being informed about human trafficking and safe migration. Both the number rescued and reunited are higher than the previous year.

Similarly, 11 people have been rescued from labor and sexual exploitation. In the year, out of 525 search operations, only 23 have had conclusive results. Koirala said that the risk has increased as the number of people using social media to lure victims is high.

He said that the search operation could not be effective as the state did not have search and rescue mechanism. Koirala said that among the changing forms of trafficking, cases of organ trafficking have also started appearing recently.

The condition of 322 people who were taken to other countries including India for employment is unknown. Koirala said that coordination was being made with various organizations and bodies abroad to find out the whereabouts of the missing persons.
