The government is preparing to give booster doses against COVID-19 from the last week of December. Health and Population Health Minister Birodh Khatiwada said the booster dose would be given from the last week of December if the World Health Organization (WHO) gives permission.
In a regular press briefing on Wednesday, Minister Khatiwada said, "We would like to give a booster dose as required from the first week of January or the last week of December if the WHO allows it."
Minister Khatiwada said that the booster dose will be given to all citizens priority to frontline health workers, security personnel, employees, the elderly and children.
Earlier, the chairman of the National Vaccine Advisory Committee Prof. Dr Ramesh Kant Adhikari had said that half of the population could be given booster doses after being vaccinated with both doses. The advisory committee has also recommended that booster doses be given to senior citizens and the chronically ill.
