Press Council Nepal Chairman Balkrishna Basnet said that with the increasing use of social media, it is necessary to refine the presentation and role of the media. He has suggested the media to pay attention to this area. He said that the content placed on the network used by people is spreading confusion. He said that the media should be aware of this and do reliable journalism.
'Let's not get confused. Not all topics posted on social media are news. However, such themes are bending the public mind. The media should be able to remove such illusions with their factual and reliable presentations' Chairman Basnet said during the orientation given to the editors and publishers of the newly opened online media at the council on Monday.
He also informed that the council is taking action against some on lines who make news by stealing baseless content. Orientation participants were given a presentation focusing on journalistic code of conduct and communication guidelines.
Former Acting Chairman of the Council Gopal Budhathoki and Head of News of Nepal Television Pushpahari Campa Rai highlight on the challenges brought by digital media and issues that need to be addressed by the media. Editors of 32 different media participated in the program.
