Police in Jumla district on Friday arrested a youth on charge of raping a 16-year-old girl from Tila Rural Municipality-3.
The accused has been identified as Lucky Budha, a 21-year-old resident of the same rural municipality.
Lucky Budha and Mukesh Mahat, a resident of the same municipality in Khalanga Bazar, allegedly raped the minor on May 25. Acting on a tip-off, joint security personnel deployed from the Jumla-based District Police Office and Kudari-based Police Office nabbed Budha.
While being taken to the District Police Office, Budha jumped from the suspension bridge while crossing the Triveni-based Tila River connecting Tila Rural Municipality 3 and 4 and got injured. He has been taken to Karnali Institute of Health Sciences, Jumla for treatment.
The police are searching for Mahat who has been absconding since the incident and further investigation into the case is underway, informed the police.
