Nepali Congress President and former prime minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said the court is the ultimate body to interpret the constitution rather than a place to determine the prime minister. Deuba said it during an interaction with journalists organised by the alliance of opposition parties in the capital city on Saturday.

Deuba hoped the court would deliver a verdict in line with the constitution. He expressed worry over the hasty decision of the President in case of appointment of prime minister when 149 lawmakers' signatures were submitted before her as per constitution.

Similarly, Chairperson of CPN Maoist Centre and former prime minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal made it clear that the alliance of the opposition parties was formed for the protection of the constitution, democracy and national interest. He also believed that the court would deliver verdict in favour of the demand made by the opposition alliance.

Moreover, UML leader and former prime minister Madhav Kumar Nepal asserted that the signatures the lawmakers of his group submitted in the writ petition at the Supreme Court would not be withdrawn at any cost. He revealed that he was lately proposed to be the prime minister. Appointments made recently in the constitutional bodies were not constitutional, he asserted.
