The Election Commission on Sunday sought a written reply from the Mahanta Thakur-led faction of Janata Samajbadi Party-Nepal (JSP). The commission has sought a written reply from the Thakur faction in response to a letter submitted by Upendra Yadav-led faction on June 18 seeking a resolution on the validity of the party’s authority.

The Yadav-led faction had also submitted the decision of the Central Working Committee of the party along with the letter.

While issuing the notice to Thakur-led faction, the commission mentioned that a request had been filed on June 18 seeking a resolution on the validity of the office bearers of the party, Central Committee and the decisions of the Central Committee as per Section 43 (3) of the Election Commission Act 2073. Hence, a written reply along with necessary proof has been sought from the Thakur-led faction of JSP as per Section 44 (2) of the Election Commission Act 2073, the commission said. Thakur has been given 15 days to respond.

Prior to this, both Yadav and Thakur had initiated action against each other’s faction members and submitted a request to the Election Commission seeking an amendment to the list of office bearers. However, the commission had rejected both the appeals stating that they did not hold sufficient ground to be acted upon.
