Sagarmatha Pollution Control CommitteeSPCC announced a new Pick up Station for Carry Me Back (CMB) campaign at Pangboche of Solukhumbu. According to the SPCC Trekkers and Guides can now participate in the campaign by picking up a 1 kg bag of recyclables at the station near Pangboche Kani and dropping off the bags at the drop-off station at Lukla.

The CMB project was successfully tested during the trekking season in autumn 2019. The CMB project was halted in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and restarted in the spring of 2022 and 2023.\

SPCC collected 18,080 PET bottles at the waste management facility at Namche Bazaar in the spring 2023 season. SPCC prevents them from ending up in the dumping pit. The PET bottles were shredded, packed in a bag, and transported with the support of volunteers through the “Carry Me Back” Program for recycling in Kathmandu.

Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee (SPCC) is a local organization established in 1991, implementing various waste management activities in the Khumbu Region.
