Pokhara, the popular tourist destination for both national and international visitors, is now in the midst of its New year's season. A large number of tourists can be seen walking down Pokhara's streets, all ecstatic to be here due to Pokhara’s undeniable charms. Besides the obvious yet stunning mountains and lakes, Pokhara also has already established a niche amongst adventure junkies too, with its many adrenaline-fueled activities available to everyone who find themselves amongst these enchanted waters.

Although Pokhara is an overdone getaway location for any Kathmandu Valley resident, it is still one of my favorite locations to visit. Getting to visit Pokhara again is an immense pleasure.

My journey to the land of lakes began with a bus journey at early daybreak. Come 7:00 am and the engines of the bus roared to life as our winding journey amongst the topsy-turvy hills of Nepal commenced. Every one of us inside the vehicle curled up inside our winter wear, the day was chilly and a ride around the high hills was even chillier. From the fogged-up windows of our bus, we could barely make out the road we were on or the towering trees and the picturesque hills that surrounded us. The inside of the bus however was set ablaze with the heat of conversation and ideas, everyone excited for their destination ahead-discussing what they were to do once they reached Pokhara.

When the conversations amongst the travel buddies, as conversations do, slowly fizzled and met their natural end, sibilant whispers of the Trishuli River slowly permeated the bus windows and lulled me into a slumber that would see me only wake up as we entered Pokhara.

“7 hours, many hearty conversations, and one enormous sleep later we’ve finally arrived. It’s only the second time I've ever set foot in Pokhara yet the sheer joy my heartfelt was one akin to the first time I had laid eyes on the majestic mountains and lakes of this land,” says Saroj Lama, one of my travel companions.
