Twenty-three lawmakers of the Madhav Kumar Nepal-led faction of CPN UML have signed on to file a writ petition at the Supreme Court against the government’s recent move to dissolve the House of Representatives.
Of the 26 parliamentarians who had signed an agreement to appoint Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba as the country’s prime minister, 23 of them have signed on the agreement to file the said writ.
The lawmakers who have signed on to file the writ are Madhav Kumar Nepal, Jhalanath Khanal, Surendra Pandey, Bhim Rawal, Ghanashyam Bhusal, Mukunda Neupane, Ramkumari Jhankri, Birodh Khatiwada, Jeevan Ram Shrestha, Som Prasad Pandey, Krishna Lal Maharjan, and Jhapat Rawal.
The other parliamentarians to do so are Niradevi Jairu, Sarala Yadav, Kalyani Khadka, Laxmi Chaudhary, Kalila Khatun, Pushpa Kumari Karn Kayastha, Bhawani Prasad Khapung, Yagya Sunuwar, Deepak Prasad Bhatta, Narayan Khatiwada and Metmani Chaudhari.
Of the 26 lawmakers of Nepal faction who had supported Deuba to be the prime minister, Gokarna Bista, Pabitra Niroula Kharel, and Ganesh Pahadi have not signed on the writ.
The opposition parties will be filing the writ stating that President Bidhya Devi Bhandari’s move to dissolve the House even though Deuba had laid claim to form the government with the support of 149 lawmakers was unconstitutional.
